Soffit replacement in Billingshurst for rotten, cracked or stained soffits under the roof overhang. We fit new low-maintenance soffits, vented where your loft needs it, with a free quote first.
Soffits are the boards that close off the underside of the roof overhang, between the fascia and the wall. They keep birds, wasps and weather out of the roof space, and on many homes they also let air into the loft to stop condensation building up.
A loft needs a steady flow of air, or moisture from the house condenses on the cold timbers and felt. Vented soffits, or vents fitted alongside them, let air in at the eaves. When we replace soffits, we make sure the loft can still breathe.
Some soffits fitted before 2000 were made from asbestos cement. If yours might be, it needs testing before anyone cuts or removes it. We'll tell you if we suspect it, and it must be dealt with safely and correctly before the new soffits go up.
We look at the soffits, the fascias above them and the loft space, checking for rot, gaps where birds or wasps get in, and signs of condensation. Your free quote covers the new soffits, any ventilation needed, fascias if they're due, and access.
On the day, we remove the old soffit boards, repair any timber they were fixed to, and fit the new soffits with vents where the roof needs them. Joints and corners are finished neatly, and the old boards are taken away when we're done.
Tell us what's happening with your roof. We aim to respond the same day, and there's no call-out charge.
We look at the roof, explain what we've found in plain terms and give you a free, no-obligation quote.
We carry out the work we quoted for, then talk you through what we've done before we leave.
The price depends on the length and depth of the soffits, the height of the house and whether the fascias and gutters are being replaced at the same time. Doing them together usually works out better value. Once we've seen them, we'll give you a free quote with no obligation.
Birds, bats and wasps get in through gaps where soffit boards have rotted, split or come away. Once inside, they can nest in the roof space. New soffits close those gaps. Bats are protected by law, so if you think they're roosting, the work has to wait for proper advice.
Many homes do. If the loft relies on air coming in at the eaves, new soffits need vents or a ventilated strip, or condensation can build up in the roof space. Some roofs are vented another way. We check how your loft is ventilated before choosing the soffits.
Yes, if the fascias are sound. Soffits can be replaced on their own, and we'll check the fascias and gutters while we're there. If the fascias are close to needing replacement, it's usually more sensible to do both together, as it saves a second round of access.
